Big Mac, located in the southwestern part of the state is Nebraska's largest body of water, its 35,700 surface acres make it Nebraska's largest reservoir with over 100 miles of shore line. At full storage, McConaughy is 20 miles long, four miles wide and 142 feet deep at the dam. The dam is among the largest of its type in the world, and the fish grow to trophy proportions, accounting for several state records. Even its nickname, "Big Mac" reflects its giant stature.

Currently the lake is in the middle of drought, however this has not curtailed its trophy potential. This is where Trophy class Walleye call home, and giant hybrid Stripers roam the open water looking for their next meal. Massive schools of hungry White Bass chase shad and alewife relentlessly in all parts of the lake and if the wind is a little too much on the big lake, then there is a top notch trout fishery just below the dam at Lake Ogallala.

This all adds up to abundant opportunities to have a action packed fishing adventure at Big Mac. This is where I come in, I have called Big Mac my fishing home for more than 26 years. Countless days on the water gives me an acute sense of where the fish are and how to catch them.
